Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:
Wednesday, Nov. 30: At 10:47 am a deputy was assisted by a JPD officer in checking a vehicle that was reported to have been driven into the ditch on Highway 30 near Pioneer Ave east of Jefferson. The owner of the vehicle reported due to a mechanical problem, she drove the vehicle off the roadway. No one was injured and the vehicle did not sustain damage. At 11:16 pm, a deputy was dispatched to the 600 block of Hills Ave in Churdan for a dog reported to be running at large. The owner of the dog was determined and returned to its owner.
Tuesday, Nov. 29: At 6:45 am the Greene County sheriff’s office assisted the Scranton fire department with a structure fire at 900 Stanton St in Scranton. The home that is owned by Doyle Roberts sustained major damage to the kitchen area and smoke damage to the entire home. The origin of the fire was determined to be electrical. At 9:21 am a deputy was advised of a harassment concern in the 200 block of Cartwright St in Rippey. At 9:33 am deputies assisted Iowa State Patrol troopers with investigating a single vehicle accident that occurred in the 1100 block of County Road E-57 (290th St) in Greenbrier Township. A semi-tractor trailer was westbound on E-57 when the driver struck the south guard rail of the bridge, causing the semi to go into the creek. Greene County EMS transported the driver to the Greene County Medical Center and then he was airlifted to Des Moines. The Jefferson fire department and DNR environmental personnel were also on scene due to the fuel spill into the water. The Iowa State Patrol was in charge of investigating the accident. At 8:49 pm a deputy was advised of a minor backing accident that occurred at the Casey’s General Store parking lot in Scranton.
Monday, Nov. 28: At 7:40 am a deputy was dispatched to the 300 block of S. 13th St in Grand Junction for an abandoned e-911 call that mapped to that location. At 10:13 pm a deputy investigated a minor car-deer accident that occurred on Highway 30, east of X Ave east of Grand Junction. No injuries were reported and only minor damage to the vehicle.

Saturday, Nov. 26: At 8:51 am a deputy was dispatched to the 100 block of N. 16th St in Grand Junction for the reported violation of a no contact order. At 5:42 pm Greene County dispatchers were able to locate the owner of several head of Cattle that were reported on the roadway near County Road P-14 (J Ave) and 240th St in Jackson Township. At 8:34 pm a deputy was advised of cattle along the roadway in the 2300 block of County Road P-14 in Greenbrier Township.
Friday, Nov. 25: At 9:58 am a deputy investigated a harassment concern in the300 block of S. 17th St in Grand Junction. At 9:02 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 100 block of N. 16th St in Grand Junction for the reported theft of personal property from the residence.
Thursday, Nov. 24: At 2:09 am a deputy was dispatched to the Spring Lake campground for an out of control female subject vandalizing a camper. After an investigation, the deputy subsequently arrested Kera Emily Tesdahl, 28, of Boone, on outstanding warrants from Boone County. At 12:13 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 800 block of Hager St East in Grand Junction to investigate a reported domestic assault. After an investigation, Martin John Tolsdorf, 52, of Grand Junction was arrested for domestic abuse assault-serious*. At 8:55 pm a deputy initiated a traffic stop on Highway 30 east of Jefferson and subsequently arrested Lenny Ray Cordova, 42, of Buckeye, AZ, for operating while intoxicated- second offense, open container in vehicle and driving on the wrong side of a two lane highway*.
Wednesday, Nov. 23: At 9:22 am a deputy was dispatched to the 600 block of Madison St in Scranton for several dogs running at large. The dogs were subsequently transported to the shelter in Jefferson. At 10 am a deputy was advised of a suspicious male subject attempting to cash a check at the United Bank of Iowa in Churdan. At 3:53 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 1000 block of 160th St in Highland Township to investigate the theft of a 4-wheel ATV.
Tuesday, Nov. 22: At 2:39 am, a deputy was dispatched to the 100 block of N. 16th St in Grand Junction to investigate criminal mischief to the tires on a vehicle. At 8:16 am two deputies and Greene County EMS responded to a single vehicle accident that occurred on County Road N-65 (D Ave) near 177th St in Kendrick Township. Michael Joseph Kudlick, 23, of Newark, DE, reported that he fell asleep and his car entered the ditch. Kudlick was not injured, with no damage reported to his vehicle.At 12:42 pm a deputy was dispatched to the Casey’s General Store in Grand Junction for a minor backing accident in the parking lot. At 8:34 pm, a deputy was assisted by a JPD officer and an Iowa State trooper in trying to locate a reported erratic and possibly intoxicated driver westbound on Highway 30. Several vehicles fitting that description were located, but no driving violations were observed.
Monday, Nov. 21: At 7:33 am Greene County dispatchers were advised of a cow along the roadway in the 500 block of 240th St in Scranton Township. Dispatchers were able to locate the owner and advised him of the situation. At 8:49 am a deputy assisted a Department of Human Services case worker with locating a juvenile female in Paton who had run away from a court ordered youth shelter in Des Moines. The deputy transported the juvenile to the Greene County LEC for further transport back to Des Moines. At 5:19 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 400 block of 9th St. S. in Grand Junction for the report of furniture being illegally burned within the city limits. The adult male was advised of the city’s burning code. At 10:30 pm a Jefferson police officer assisted a deputy with a single vehicle accident that occurred as an eastbound vehicle struck the west side of the Raccoon River bridge on County Road E-53 (‘old Highway 30’) west of Jefferson. Kirby Gene Gathercoal, 18, of Grand Junction reported that due to a wet road surface, he lost control of his 1996 Toyota Corolla, striking the bridge guard rail. Gathercoal was not injured but his car sustained major damage. He was issued a citation for failure to maintain control.
Sunday, Nov. 20: At 12:57 pm, a deputy responded to check the status of an abandoned e-911 call that mapped to the 1500 block of 120th St in Dawson Township. At 2:57 pm a deputy assisted JPD officers and the Iowa State Patrol with a single vehicle accident at the intersection of Highways 30 and 4. At 5:15 pm a deputy, JPD officers and the Jefferson fire department responded to a fire call in the 600 block of S. Olive St. At 10 pm a deputy assisted a JPD officer with a domestic call in the 700 block of N. Cedar St in Jefferson.
Saturday, Nov. 19: At 10:52 am a deputy was advised of a harassment concern from a resident in the 900 block of Jefferson St in Scranton involving a stalking incident in Jefferson. At 6 pm a deputy was asked by the Webster County sheriff’s office to check the status of a reported single vehicle accident that occurred just into Webster County on Highway 144. At 9:48 pm a deputy assisted the JPD with responding to an e-911 medical call at the Wild Rose Casino.
Friday, Nov. 18: At 6:17 pm a deputy was dispatched to the Landus Cooperative site in Scranton for a reported male subject trespassing on coop property. The described male was never located.
Thursday, Nov. 17: At 9:01 am a deputy was dispatched to the Rippey Cemetery to check a suspicious vehicle with a male occupant. The described car was not located upon the deputy’s arrival. At 3:13 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 100 block of Sunset Drive in Grand Junction to investigate criminal mischief to the windshield of a car. At 6:23 pm a deputy was advised of cattle along the roadway at 330th St and A Ave in Willow Township. At 7:07 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 300 block of N. 13th St in Grand Junction for the reported theft of a bicycle.
Wednesday, Nov. 16: At 7:23 am a deputy was dispatched for a single vehicle accident that occurred on Highway 4 just north of the intersection with 300th St in Franklin Township. Benjamin James Vrieze, 35, of Fort Dodge was northbound when he lost control of his 2004 Chevrolet Impala and it entered the east ditch. Vrieze was not injured and found a ride to Jefferson after the accident. Vrieze was later located and issued citations for failure to maintain control, driving while suspended and failure to prove security against liability- accident related. At 2:28 pm a deputy, the sheriff, Greene County EMS and the Greene County coroner were dispatched to the 1100 block of Lincoln St in Scranton for an unattended death. At 5:03 pm a deputy and the sheriff were advised of several off road go-carts being operated on the city street of Scranton. One of the go-carts was stopped near Lincoln and Jefferson St and the deputy issued a citation to Trey Donte Hill, 23, of Carroll, for driving while suspended. The go-cart was impounded and transported to a lock down facility.
Tuesday, Nov. 15: At 2:44 am a deputy was dispatched to check a reported suspicious vehicle in the 900 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. The deputy determined that the car had developed mechanical problems and was being towed from the area. At 7:54 am the chief deputy sheriff and K-9 Leo assisted the Perry police department with a search. At 9:47 am a deputy was advised of the possible violation of a no contact order involving a Churdan resident. At 11:19 am a deputy was dispatched to the 1000 block of County Road E-57 (290th St) in Greenbrier Township for cattle along the roadway. At 12:50 pm a deputy was dispatched to Rueter’s Red Power in Grand Junction to investigate the reported theft of a Case IH tractor. At 2:11 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 1300 block of Kirkwood Ave in Jackson Township for a reported burglary and the theft of tools. At 5:10 pm three deputies, Greene County EMS and the Greene County medical examiner were dispatched to the 800 block of Lincoln St in Scranton to investigate an unattended death.
Monday, Nov. 14: At 5:37 am a deputy assisted a JPD officer with a traffic stop and his subsequent arrest of an intoxicated driver. At 7:25 pm a deputy assisted JPD with a search warrant in Jefferson. At 11:59 pm a deputy assisted a JPD officer with a call in the 900 block of W. Lincoln Way.
Sunday, Nov. 13: At 1:24 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 900 block of 230th St in Scranton Township for a trespassing concern.
Saturday, Nov. 12: At 7:27 am a deputy was dispatched for a car-deer accident that occurred on Highway 30 and R Ave west of Grand Junction. Lisa Marie Cole of Glidden reported that she was eastbound on Highway 30 driving a 2012 Toyota Prius when a deer ran onto the roadway and was stuck. Cole was not injured but her vehicle sustained an estimated $5,000 in damages. The car was towed from the scene. At 9:32 am a deputy was dispatched for a reported hit and run accident that occurred on 270th St between F and G Ave in Scranton Township. The deputy reported that two pickups struck each other’s mirrors as the passed each other on the roadway. At 12:57 pm a deputy was dispatched for a car-deer accident that occurred on Highway 30 at County Road P-14 (J Ave). A westbound 2007 Ford pickup that was being driven by Kim Winkelman of Scranton sustained minimal damage as a deer ran in front of her pickup. She was not injured and drove the vehicle from the scene. At 7:48 pm a deputy was dispatched for a car-deer accident on Highway 30 near the Raccoon River Bridge (near County Road P-14) west of Jefferson. A westbound 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer being driven by Claire Marie Wilson of Sioux City sustained reported damages of $3,500. No injuries were reported and the vehicle was driven from the scene. At 9:03 pm a deputy investigated a reported sexual assault in Grand Junction.
Friday, Nov. 11: At 1:50 pm a deputy was advised of the theft of a Skill power saw from a building site in the 800 block of 300th St in Greenbrier Township. At 7:37 pm a deputy was dispatched to a car-deer accident that occurred on Highway 30 just west of R Ave west of Grand Junction. Kelly Korene Freeman of Jefferson struck a deer causing an estimated $2,000 in damages, with no injuries reported.
Thursday, Nov. 10: At 1:42 am a deputy initiated a traffic stop on Highway 30 for a vehicle that was speeding and subsequently arrested Wynter Caleb Williams, 20, of Des Moines on outstanding warrants from Webster County. The deputy transported Williams to the Webster-Greene County line where he was taken into custody by a Webster County deputy. At 6:17 am a deputy was asked to remove a deer carcass from the roadway on County Road E-53 near the Raccoon River bridge west of Jefferson. At 10:03 am a deputy issued a citation for failure to maintain control to Anita Renee Alvarez, 18, of Guthrie Center after she rolled her 1997 Saturn into the ditch on Highway 25 near the 105 mile marker. Alvarez reported that she was northbound on Highway 25 when she lost control and entered the west ditch, rolling the vehicle. Her Saturn was reported to be a total loss. At 10:59 am a deputy and the Jefferson fire department responded to farm field fire in the 1200 block of 190th St in Bristol Township that was started when a liquid manure transfer air compressor stated on fire in the stalk field. Damage to the 300 CFM air compressor was estimated to be $10,000.
Wednesday, Nov. 9: At 2:50 am two deputies, Churdan fire and rescue and Greene County Emergency Medical Services personnel all responded to a single vehicle accident that occurred at the T intersection of County Road E-19 (130th St) and County Road N-65 (D Ave) in Cedar Township. John Husted Berg, 59, of Churdan was eastbound on E-19 when he failed to stop at the posted stop sign and drove into the east ditch at the intersection with N-65. Berg was transported to the Greene County Medical Center ER with reported head injuries. A passenger in his vehicle was not injured but Berg’s 2003 GMC Yukon was estimated to be a total loss. Charges are pending further investigation and DCI lab reports. At 7:14 am a deputy was asked to check the welfare of several dogs in the 500 block of W. Main St in Grand Junction.
Tuesday, Nov. 8: At 1:03 am a deputy was dispatched for a car-deer accident that occurred on Highway 30 near Kirkwood Ave west of Jefferson. A 2011 Chevrolet Impala being driven by Roxanne Krafton of Guthrie Center struck a deer, incurring an estimated $4,000 in damage to her 2011 Chevrolet Impala. She was not injured but the vehicle was towed from the scene. At 5:33 am a deputy was dispatched to the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction to investigate the theft of personal property from a vehicle. At 6:51 am a deputy was dispatched to the 900 block of Grant St in Scranton for the report of a stolen vehicle. At 8:31 am a deputy was dispatched to the 600 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction to investigate an attempted burglary to a home and the theft of personal property from a vehicle. At 10 am a deputy was of criminal mischief to several vehicles that were parked in the 800 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 10:02 am a deputy was dispatched to the 600 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction to investigate the theft of prescription medication from a residence. At 10:15 am a deputy was dispatched to the 300 block of South 17th St in Grand Junction for the attempted burglary to a garage. At 10:15 am a deputy was dispatched to Paton for a minor backing accident. At 10:23 am a deputy was dispatched to the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction for criminal mischief to a vehicle. At 12:30 pm a deputy was advised of the theft of a welder and plasma cutter from a farm building site in the county. At 8:55 pm a deputy was advised of several head of cattle along the roadway on 230th St between Linwood and Kirkwood Ave in Jackson Township. The cattle were placed back into the pasture.
Sunday, Nov. 6: At 8:27 am a deputy and the sheriff assisted a DNR conservation officer with a hunting call in the 1000 block of 170th St in Bristol Township. At 9:55 am a deputy captured two dogs running at large in Scranton and transported them to the animal shelter in Jefferson. At 4:38 pm a deputy is investigating the illegal use and theft of internet services from a residence in the 800 block of High St in Scranton. At 4:52 pm a deputy was advised of criminal mischief to an electrical meter box at a farm building site in the 800 block of County Road E-57 (290th St) in Greenbrier Township. At 7:21 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 1800 block of County Road E-53 (235th St) in Grant Township for the report of cattle along the roadway. The owner was advised and placed the calf back into the pasture.
Saturday, Nov. 5: At 5:09 pm a deputy was asked to check the welfare of several dogs that were reported to be neglected in the 1000 block of Grant St in Scranton. At 5:34 pm a deputy and the Scranton fire department were dispatched for a vehicle on fire along the roadway in the 300 block of 225th St in Scranton Township. The 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup registered to Shane Butler was a total loss.
Friday, Nov. 4: At 9:42 am a deputy was advised of a careless and erratic driver on 170th St eastbound between Farlin and Highway 4. The described vehicle was not located at that time. At 6:44 pm the sheriff was dispatched for a car-deer accident that occurred in the 2400 block of Highway 4 in Franklin Township. John J. Plaisance, 36, of Waukee, reported that he was northbound on Highway 4 when a deer ran onto the roadway, striking his vehicle. The 2014 Chevrolet Traverse was operational but did sustain an estimated $6,000 in damages. Plaisance and three other passengers were not injured. At 6:56 pm the sheriff was dispatched to the 500 block of Highway 144 (U Ave) in Paton Township for a car-deer accident. Ricki Lee Pirie, 63, of Fort Dodge reported that he was southbound on Highway 144 when a deer ran onto the roadway and collided with his 2005 Chrysler Pacifica. Pirie was not injured but his vehicle sustained an estimated $15,000 in damages. The vehicle was towed from the scene. At 11:54 pm a deputy assisted Jefferson police officers with a call in the 100 block of S. Chestnut St.
Thursday, Nov. 3: At 4:29 pm a deputy was dispatched to Scranton for the report of a red vehicle being driven in an erratic and careless manner through the town. The described vehicle was not located at that time. At 7:05 pm a deputy was advised of many head of cattle along the roadway on County Road N-65 near D Ave in Cedar Township. Greene County dispatchers were able to locate the owner of the cattle.
Wednesday, Nov. 2: At 8:32 am a deputy was advised of the theft of a push mower from a yard in the 200 block of 2nd St in Rippey. At 6 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 2100 block of 250th St in Junction Township to investigate the report of someone needing assistance from a Sirius SX emergency response activation. The deputy determined that the E-911 location that was given does not exist in Greene County. At 6:39 pm a deputy was dispatched for a minor car-deer accident that occurred on Highway 4 near 190th St north of Jefferson. A 2008 Ford pickup truck that was being driven by Chad Michael Mobley, 42, of Paton sustained an estimated $1,500 in damages when the deer ran into the side of his vehicle.
Tuesday, Nov. 1: At 5:07 am a deputy was dispatched to the 700 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction for a reported burglary and possible theft of personal property from a vehicle. At 10:57 am a deputy was advised of cattle along the roadway on County Road P-46 (W Ave) near 230th St in Junction Township. The deputy placed the cattle back into the stalk field. At 11 am the chief deputy sheriff and K-9 Leo assisted the Carroll County sheriff’s office with a search of the school. At 3:40 pm a deputy was dispatched for a single vehicle rollover accident that occurred at 230th St and Jordan Ave in Jackson Township. Slater Gilbert Kirk, 16, of Grand Junction, reported that he was northbound on Jordan Avenue and failed to make the curve onto 230th St, rolling his 2000 Dodge pickup truck into the ditch. Kirk was not injured but his pickup was determined to be a total loss. He was issued citations for failure to provide insurance and failure to maintain control. At 5:30 pm two deputies responded to a domestic altercation in the 200 block of Adaza Street.
